Have the current moon phase displayed in your system tray. This program sits in your system tray. Calculation of the current moon phase (and everything else) is based on the computers system time. The program does not connect to a web site to get this information.
The system tray icon changes with the moon phase.
Hovering the mouse over it will display the age of the moon.
But that's not all. Double-click on the icon, and you get this list:
![]() |
The information on the top refers to the age of the moon, and the phase it is currently in. '22%' means a quarter
the moon's surface is lit,
50% is half moon,
100% would be full moon. The age of moon also tells us that the waning half moon (last quarter moon) has just been. The next batch of lines gives all the details for the current lunar month: Last new moon, first quarter, half moon, last quarter, new new moon. Then there are the times for moon rise, transit and moon set for today. And the same for the sun, just because we can. |
But doesn't the moon rise at different times in different places? Of course it does. For this reason Moonstruck accepts parameters to set your location. It expects the following format:
MStruck Addis Ababa 9 -38.6
What you need to do is to go to your local library and find out what your latitude and longitude are. Alternatively, use Atlas Query.
The parameters can be given when the program is called, or through it's configuration dialog.
If you happen to live in Whitley Bay on the NE coast of England, you're lucky. Because that is the default setting for the program, and you don't need enter the details at program start. Open the 'About box' and see for yourself:
The About box will also tell you what time zone the program thinks you are in. You see, times are calculated in Universal Time iternally, and then translated into your local time for display purposes.
Currently the Moonstruck supports the following languages:
If you think you can help us out and provide the translation into another language, or even suggest better wordings, please contact the author.
Who cares? For those of you who do:
Works great for me, small footage.
